Unity and Roblox Software taught

Two courses to choose from

Both courses follow the same structure. Students learn the software, build a small working project, then spend the rest of the term on a game of their own design.

Unity Game Development

Secondary 4–5 recommended · 60 min/week · 12-week term

C#

Unity is used to build a large share of the games students already play. They begin by making a character move, then add collisions, scoring, menus and win conditions.

  • C# programming from the beginning: variables, conditions, loops and functions
  • Physics, colliders and player controls
  • Level design, sprites and simple 3D scenes
  • Finding and fixing errors in their own code

Students finish with a playable game of their own design and a working knowledge of C#.

Roblox Game Development

Secondary 1–3 recommended · 60 min/week · 12-week term

Lua

Many students already play Roblox. This course moves them from playing to building. They work in Roblox Studio, write Lua, and can publish a game their friends play the same day.

  • Lua scripting: events, variables, functions and game logic
  • Building worlds and obstacles in Roblox Studio
  • Multiplayer features such as leaderboards and teams
  • Publishing a game and improving it based on player feedback

Students finish with a published Roblox game and a link they can share.

Setting up a program takes four steps

Introductory call

We discuss your students, your schedule and the equipment you have, and work out whether the program suits your school.

Scheduling and setup

We agree on a day, a room and a term length, then check that your computers meet the requirements listed below.

Enrolment

We provide a program description and a poster you can send to families, and we work with whatever sign-up process your school already uses.

Weekly sessions

We teach the sessions at your school each week. The term ends with a showcase where students present the games they built.

What each side provides

If your computer lab cannot meet the requirements on the right, mention it on the introductory call. There is usually a way around it.

We provide

  • An instructor on site for every session
  • The full curriculum and every lesson plan
  • Project files, starter assets and student handouts
  • Setup instructions for your IT staff
  • An end-of-term showcase, organised by us
  • One point of contact for the whole term

Your school provides

  • A computer lab, or a room with student computers
  • Permission to install Unity Hub and Roblox Studio, or for your IT staff to install them in advance
  • Internet access on those computers
  • A weekly time slot and a room booking
  • Help letting families know the program is running
  • A staff contact we can reach about scheduling and room access. They do not need to be present during sessions — our instructor supervises the group.

Common questions

Do students need any coding experience?

No. Both courses start from the beginning and assume no previous programming. Students who already code are not held back either, because they design their own main project and can set it at their own level.

How many students can join?

Between 5 and 10 students per course. Above ten we would run a second section rather than a larger group, since students get individual help during sessions.

Who teaches the sessions?

Aki, who founded Future Inventors, has a Computer Science degree from McGill and leads the teaching. Additional instructors join as more schools sign up.

Do you run programs in French?

Yes. Both courses are available in French, and we can run a group in either language. Let us know which you need when you get in touch.

Can you teach something other than Unity or Roblox?

Possibly. We also teach Python, web development and Arduino robotics in private sessions, and any of them could be adapted into a school course. Ask on the introductory call.

Request a program overview

Send us your school, the grade levels you have in mind and roughly when you would like to start. We reply within one business day with a program overview and answers to anything your administration needs to know.
